Morbid Obesity, Trauma & How to Lose 100 Pounds
Healing Emotional Eating for Lasting Weight Loss
If you have a significant amount of weight to lose, you may already know that this journey is about more than just food.
In this deeply personal podcast episode, I share my story of living with morbid obesity, struggling with emotional eating, and ultimately losing over 100 pounds. This transformation did not happen overnight, and it did not come from willpower alone. It required healing patterns that were rooted in survival, trauma, and identity.
For many women, weight gain happens slowly over time. Food can become a source of comfort, protection, reward, escape, or control. Emotional eating and binge cycles often develop as coping mechanisms during stressful or painful seasons of life. While these behaviors may have once helped us survive, they can later create barriers to sustainable weight loss and long-term health.
In this episode, we talk about the powerful connection between childhood trauma and adult health outcomes. Research has shown that early life stress can influence patterns such as emotional eating, body disconnection, anxiety, depression, and chronic health challenges including obesity. Understanding this connection can help women move from shame to awareness and begin a true healing journey.
You will also learn why many people lose the first 5–10 pounds and then return to old habits. Lasting transformation requires more than temporary motivation. It involves rewiring beliefs, developing new coping strategies, building consistency, and becoming someone who prioritizes health and wellness on a daily basis.
During my own journey, I focused on practical lifestyle changes such as structured nutrition, walking, improving sleep, exercising consistently, tracking progress, and surrounding myself with supportive environments and coaching. Just as importantly, I worked on healing my relationship with food, addressing shame around my body, and shifting my identity.
